Hoosiers lose starting quarterback for season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana quarterback Nate Sudfeld will miss the rest of the season after separating his non-throwing shoulder in Saturday’s loss at Iowa.

Coach Kevin Wilson says Sudfeld will undergo surgery later this week. He is expected to be replaced by freshman Chris Covington against No. 8 Michigan State this weekend.

Covington went 3 of 12 for 31 yards after replacing Sudfeld last weekend in his most extensive action of the season.

Sudfeld was Indiana’s most consistent quarterback in 2013 and was having a solid junior season, too. He was 101 of 167 with 1,151 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions for Indiana (3-3, 0-2 Big Ten).
