NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Dawn Woodard shot a 1-under 71 on Saturday to top the leaderboard after the first round of stroke-play qualifying in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.
The 40-year-old Woodard, from Greer, South Carolina, had four birdies and three bogeys at Harbour Trees. The top 64 after the second round Sunday will advance to match play in the event for players 25 and older.
“I didn’t play superb by any means, but I didn’t make any mistakes,” Woodard said. “I was just looking for a good, consistent round, and that’s what I got.”
Defending champion Julia Potter of Granger, Indiana, was a stroke back.
