Valpo scores 32 in 2nd half, tops William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. (AP) — Valparaiso scored 32 straight points to open the second half, including touchdown runs of 1 and 5 yards by Brandon Hall, and overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to beat William Jewell 39-30 on Saturday.

Trailing 22-7 against Div. II William Jewell, Valparaiso (1-2) opened the third quarter with a 14-play, 59-yard drive, capped by a 33-yard field goal by Jacob Newman.

On the ensuing William Jewell possession, Devan Gadson picked off a pass from DJ Balazs and returned it 30 yards for a score, pulling Valpo within five.

Two plays later, Roberto Kelly recovered a Balazs fumble at the William Jewell 18, setting up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Ben Lehman to Kent Warren. The same pair hooked up on the 2-point conversion, giving the Crusaders their first lead — one they didn’t relinquish.

Nate Egharevba caught eight passes for 111 yards and a score for William Jewell (1-2).
