Texas Southern beats Texas College 52-14

HOUSTON (AP) — Jamal Small threw three touchdown passes to help Texas Southern beat overmatched NAIA school Texas College 52-14 on Thursday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Small was 6 of 9 for 146 yards for the Tigers, coming off a 37-35 victory over Southwestern Athletic Conference rival Prairie View in their opener last week.

Small threw a 39-yard scoring pass to Malik Cross in the first quarter, and connected with Daveonn Porter on a 6-yarder and Bill Rosenberg on a 63-yarder in the second quarter.

Porter also had a 53-yard scoring run in the first quarter. He finished with 80 yards rushing on seven carries after running for 128 yards against Prairie View.

Jay Christope also threw a touchdown pass for Texas Southern and scored on a 52-yard run.

Texas College also was routed last week in its opener, falling 44-6 to Bellhaven.
