WASHINGTON — Following big weekends for both teams, the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles are each on the verge of clinching their respective divisions.

The math is simple for the Nationals, who travel to Atlanta for a three-game series beginning Monday night. With a Magic Number of 4, they can clinch the NL East division on their fiercest rival’s home turf simply by winning two-of- three, which could happen as soon as Tuesday night. If they don’t take the series, the Nats will travel to Miami for four, while the Braves will have an off day before hosting the Mets for three.

The situation is a bit more complicated, but just as promising for Baltimore. The O’s own a Magic Number of 3 over the Blue jays and just 2 over the Yankees, thanks to Sunday’s walk-off win over the Bronx Bombers. Baltimore also controls its own destiny, beginning a three-game set with Toronto at home Monday night. They also share the same mandate with the Nats: win the series and clinch the division. The Yankees, meanwhile, travel to Tampa, where any combination of two O’s wins and New York losses will eliminate them from the division.
