BALTIMORE (AP) — A man has been convicted of kidnapping, beating and raping a woman before dumping her in a Baltimore alley in 2009.
A Baltimore jury last week found 26-year-old Von Hammond guilty of abducting a woman on Feb. 13, 2009 after she pulled to the side of the road to retrieve something from her trunk.
Prosecutors say Hammond approached the car, stabbed the victim in the side and told her to drive to a house in west Baltimore where he beat, raped, tied her up with wire and threw her out of a window. She was found in the house’s backyard.
A spokesman for the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office says the victim survived her injuries.
Hammond was convicted of rape, assault and kidnapping. He faces up to life in prison.
