Late TD gives San Diego 20-16 win over Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Keith Williams threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Bell with 5 seconds remaining to give San Diego a 20-16 victory over Marist on Saturday.

Marist’s Mike Maccarone kicked a 25-yard field goal with 9:15 left for a 16-13 lead and it looked like the Red Foxes (0-5, 0-2 Pioneer) might pick up their first victory of the season and first over the Toreros (3-1, 1-1) in 10 meetings. But after Marist turned the ball over on downs at the USD 29, the Toreros drove 71 yards on eight plays in just 53 seconds, scoring on the fourth-and-6 pass.

The Red Foxes had taken a 13-3 halftime lead behind Anthony Francis’ 34-yard touchdown pass to Armani Martin and Demetrius Williams’ 34-yard fumble return after a strip-sack by Mike Kagafas.

USD tied it on David Last’s fourth-quarter field goal after scoring on Chris Campano’s 2-yard run in the third.
