BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Scott Harvey and Brad Nurski shared medalist honors Sunday in the U.S. Mid-Amateur to top the 64-man match-play field at Saucon Valley.
The 36-year-old Harvey, a real estate property manager from Greensboro, North Carolina, had a 5-under 76 on the Weyhill Course after opening with a 65 on Saturday on the Old Course, the site of match play.
“It is an honor to be a co-medalist,” Harvey said. “I was very pleased with the way that I came back and grinded on the back nine today to put myself in this position.”
The 35-year-old Nurski, a railroad conductor and switchman from St. Joseph, Missouri, birdied four of his last eight holes on the Old Course for a 70 to match Harvey at 1-under 141.
“It’s an honor to tie for first out of 264 guys,” Nurski said. “It’s always your goal to shoot as low as you possibly can and beat everybody. Now you only have to beat two people — the guy in your match and the golf course.”
Sixteen players tied for 62nd at 9-over 151. They will have a playoff Monday morning on the Weyhill Course for the final three match-play spots.
The event is limited to players 25 and older.
