WASHINGTON — Former Washington Post Executive Editor Ben Bradlee came to fame for his handing of Watergate and provided an Oscar-winning role for Jason Robards in “All The President’s Men.”
Bradlee is now 93, and there’s word he’s in declining health.
His wife and fellow Washington Post reporter Sally Quinn tells C-SPAN that Bradlee is in hospice care and continues to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
She says Bradlee began hospice care at the couple’s home in Washington in mid- September.
Quinn says Bradlee still knows who she is. He sleeps about 20 hours a day.
“[I]t’s been the most horrible experience I have ever had up until recently,” Quinn said. “And he’s still at home, I still have him sleeping in the bed with me, and I will until the end. But a certain peace has come over me, and this feeling of serenity. Because what I thought was going to be horrible, the caretaking part of it has really become something almost sacred about it.”
