Police: Duo used door-to-door scam for drug money

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania couple is accused of going door-to-door selling “pizza kits” supposedly to raise money for their young daughter’s ballet lessons, but police say they really used the money to buy drugs.

The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1kO0KpN ) reports that West Hills Regional Police, who patrol that city’s suburbs, say the couple took “donations” of $18 to $20 from at least 69 residents.

The couple had their little girl in tow, prompting police Sgt. George Musulin to say, “They used this little girl as a ploy.”

Online court records don’t list attorneys for 28-year-olds Jon Beltz Jr. and Nicole Cairns.

Beltz remained in the Cambria County Jail on Friday. The Associated Press could not immediately locate a phone number for Cairns.
