WASHINGTON — Police in D.C. are looking to identify a Hispanic man seen in new video who may be connected with three assaults in D.C.
The video shows a man on Saturday, Aug. 23 around 2:35 a.m. running in the 1300 block of Oak Street NW. It’s the same area and time when an assault occurred in Columbia Heights.
“It appears to be away from the scene of the incident,” says Officer Wilfredo Manladaz. He confirms the man was armed with a knife at the time of the August 23 assault.
Previously, police have said the assault and two others in the Columbia Heights/Mount Pleasant area may be connected.
All three attacks took place within a mile of each other within five days.
In all three cases the man was described as Hispanic and in his 20s or early 30s. The suspect was further described as 5’4″ in height with a stocky build, clean shaven with short black hair that was gelled or slicked back.
“We recovered a Chicago Bulls hat he was wearing on the scene and he was also wearing a blue, green and white polka dot button-down shirt,” Manladaz says.
The first assault occurred around 2 a.m. on Aug. 20. The second assault then followed on Aug. 24 at 3:10 a.m. and the third occurred on Aug. 24 around 3 a.m. All the female victims were walking at the time of the assaults.
“When you’re walking out late at night in any area, just make sure you’re safe, you’re aware of your surroundings and it’s best to walk with groups of people,” Manladaz says.
