WASHINGTON – Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals gave away 25,000 gnome garden figurines that resembled star player Jayson Werth.
Fans started lining up at the stadium just after 2 p.m.
More than 40,600 people attended Tuesday’s game that put the Nats against the Mets.
Although the Nationals lost 6-1, some fans are hoping to be financial winners by selling their free gnomes online.
Dozens of Jayson Werth gnomes are for sale on eBay.
As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the lowest auction bid for a gnome was $26.25, with some bids close to $50. The range to “Buy It Now” was between $63 and $199. Some offers included free shipping.
Craigslist also had dozens of requests from fans who wanted to sell or buy Jayson Werth gnomes. Prices on Craigslist started at $25 Wednesday morning. Several fans there are offering to trade bobbleheads, such as that of Nationals outfielder Denard Span, for gnomes.
