VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — The Wildlife Center of Virginia is set to release a juvenile bald eagle near the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach.
The release will occur on Tuesday.
The wildlife center says the bald eagle being released was found on the ground in Sandbridge in May. It was thin, dehydrated and had a low level of protein.
The eagle was given fluids, anti-inflammatories and several days of supportive care and cage rest. It has spent a few weeks in the center’s outdoor flight pens.
Virginia’s bald eagle population is on the rebound. It was once down to 50 nests in the state, but there are now more than 1,000 active bald eagle nests.
Since its founding in 1982, the center has cared for more than 65,000 wild animals.
