Watch rocket launch into space from VA on Sunday

WASHINGTON– After multiple delays, NASA and Orbital Sciences hope this weekend an Antares rocket will make it’s way to the International Space Station from Virginia.

Launch time is set for Sunday at 12:52 p.m.

The rocket, which was privately developed by Orbital, will be carrying some 3,700 pounds of supplies and more science experiments for the crew. According to UniverseToday.com,the rocket will include a private Cygnus cargo freighter “loaded with a diverse array of science experiments including a flock of nanosatellites and deployers, student science experiments and small cubesat prototypes that may one day fly to Mars.”

This will be the second resupply mission for Dulles, Va.-based Orbital.

The launch will take place at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, making it possible for observers to see it throughout the the D.C. area. Partial views will also be possible as far south as South Carolina and far north as Massachusetts, according to NASA, which has some points at which to spot the rocket displayed on its website.

According to reports, severe thunderstorms forced two consecutive postponements this week from the VA facility.
