O’s RHP Gonzalez uncertain, Hunter almost back

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Baltimore right-hander Miguel Gonzalez will play catch before the Orioles decide if he starts Saturday or goes on the disabled list.

Gonzalez had been set to start Thursday night’s series finale at Texas, but was scratched and pushed back after waking up earlier this week with soreness in his right side. An MRI showed no significant problems.

Manager Buck Showalter says Gonzalez is feeling better, but that it’s impossible to really evaluate until he throws Friday.

The Orioles could get their closer back while home this weekend against Oakland.

Tommy Hunter, on the disabled list with a strained left groin, had a two-inning simulated game Thursday with no problems.

Showalter says Hunter will pitch at Class-A Delmarva on Saturday, and could rejoin the Orioles on Sunday.
