Orioles minor leaguer gets 50-game drug ban

NEW YORK (AP) — A minor league pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for a banned substance.

Major League Baseball said Friday that Eduardo Gamboa of the Triple-A Norfolk Tides tested positive for “exogenous” testosterone. The description suggests that the substance was not built up by the body’s own metabolism.

The right-hander will not be paid during his suspension, which takes effect immediately.

This is the 31st suspension this year under the minor league drug and prevention program.
