BRISTOL, Va. (AP) — The championship equestrian program at a southwest Virginia college that closed is being taken over by Emory & Henry College.
The shift follows the collapse in May of 130-year-old Virginia Intermont College in Bristol. The school’s demise followed a sharp decline in enrollment and the loss of its accreditation, among other developments.
According to media reports, Virginia Intermont’s equestrian program had won 17 national championship titles.
Emory & Henry has completed the acquisition of 40 horses and the program’s tack.
Emory & Henry is located in Washington County.
