LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. (AP) — Federal officials are due in Lawrenceville to outline their plan to bring hundreds of Central American teenagers to a shuttered college campus.
A representative of the Administration for Children and Families is to address residents of the rural southern Virginia town Thursday night.
The agency has not publicly outlined or formally announced any plan to temporarily house the children ages 13 to 18 at St. Paul’s College, but local officials say they were briefed earlier this week.
According to those officials, St. Paul’s President Millard “Pete” Stith Jr. and federal officials worked out the plan to bring the children to Lawrenceville but kept local officials in the dark. Stith has not returned messages left by The Associated Press.
The children are among thousands crossing the border into the U.S.
