ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Prosecutors say a woman charged with texting while driving has been fined $500 for an accident that killed a motorcyclist.
Twenty-one- year-old Elizabeth Meyers of Severn pleaded guilty on Monday to negligent driving in the accident that killed 30-year-old Jonathan Wesley Roberts of Aylett, Virginia.
Meyers had been charged with several offenses, including negligent manslaughter and text messaging while driving, after the crash in Gambrills on March 10, 2013.
A spokeswoman for Anne Arundel County state’s attorney office says the police investigation since the accident let to conflicting evidence, which resulted in the plea. Meyers’ lawyer said the sentence was consistent with the facts.
Authorities say Meyers was trying to drive across Route 3 and drove into the path of Roberts’ motorcycle.
