WASHINGTON (AP) — A man has pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon for firing at an unmarked van full of D.C. police officers.
During an appearance before a federal judge on Wednesday, 23-three-year-old Shawn Gray also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony. He could face eight to 10 years in prison.
At the time of the shooting, Gray was on supervised release for a 2009 conviction for carrying a pistol without a license.
According to court papers, police officers were operating an unmarked minivan in a robbery intervention program in northeast Washington when they spotted Gray and another man acting suspiciously in January 2013. Gray suddenly fired gunshots at the minivan. Gray fled, but was later arrested. He faces sentencing on July 25.
