NEW YORK (AP) — A red card issued to D.C. United forward Eddie Johnson has been rescinded by an independent review panel.
United appealed the card, given in the 82nd minute of Saturday’s game against New England by referee Juan Guzman after contact with the Revolution’s Kelyn Rowe.
Major League Soccer said Wednesday the appeal was unanimously upheld by the panel, which includes one representative from the U.S. Soccer Federation, the Canadian Soccer Association and the Professional Referees Organization.
Johnson, bypassed for the U.S. World Cup roster, had just returned from a one-game suspension assessed for a reckless challenge on Montreal goalkeeper Troy Perkins on May 17.
