WASHINGTON — Many of you might have big plans for this Memorial Day weekend. Perhaps you’re headed to the beach, or taking a trip to see friends and family.
However, you don’t have to go far to have fun, as many D.C. area pools have opened for the first time all season.
Some families braved cool water temperatures Saturday morning for the opening of The Water Mine park in Reston, Va.
“I think it’s gonna be a very quick trip today,” says one parent. “I’m already cold just standing here.”
“We’re getting the kids out of the house, letting them wear off some energy,” says another parent. “It’s a little cold, but they don’t seem to mind.”
In D.C., Mayor Vincent Gray opened the pool season on Friday. The city operates 18 outdoor pools, 19 spray parks and four children’s pools.
The pools and spray parks will be open on Saturdays and Sundays through June 22, according to the Associated Press.
On June 23, which is a Monday, all pools will open for their summer hours, which include weekdays, the AP reports.
