WASHINGTON — Capital Crescent Trail has been reopened in Georgetown.
Crews were working to make repairs after a storm and DC Water worked on cleanup and decontamination on the trail, surrounding lands and the C&O Canal.
However, in a news release, the NPS still asks the public not to enter the water below Lock 6 because of last week’s sewage overflow. Crews are still taking test samples to ensure water quality.
Additionally, the news release states: “Above Lock 5 to Lock 7 additional sewage discharges into the canal may have occurred. Cleanup, decontamination and repair work is on-going. The NPS advises users of the canal to avoid direct contact with water in the canal.”
