WASHINGTON — It was a busy Mother’s Day for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, who performed two separate rescues on Sunday.
First, a mother and daughter called for help at about 10:30 a.m. during a hike along Billy Goat Trail Pass after the daughter was hurt in a fall.
Fire spokesperson Pete Piringer says rescuers arrived by foot and on all-terrain vehicles. They got the pair to the shore, and a U.S. Park Service helicopter lifted them out of the park. The injured daughter was taken to Suburban Hospital.
In the second incident, two swimmers were rescued from the C and O Canal near Lock Six at about 2 p.m. after the current was stronger than they expected. One of the men was taken to the hospital, but the other swimmer is okay.
