GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) — Anne Arundel County police say a man and a woman have been soliciting bogus charitable contributions to fund their drug habits.
Police say 25-year-old Matthew Michalski and 21-year-old Amanda Miskimon, both of Baltimore, were arrested Friday after someone who donated money to them became suspicious and called police.
Police say the pair was outside the Giant Foods store on Crain Highway in Glen Burnie, asking for cash for a group called the “Support our Troops Foundation.” Police say the man became suspicious after he asked for a flier about the group and called a number on the flier, after which a cellphone in one of the collectors’ pockets started ringing.
There is a foundation with that name, but police say the pair was not authorized to collect money for it.
