Washington Yu Ying PCS (Yu Ying) is a public, open-enrollment, International Baccalaureate World School in northeast DC. Now serving students from PreK to 6th grade, Yu Ying was founded on two main premises: 1) that fluency in more than one language helps students to communicate with and understand other cultures and 2) Mandarin Chinese is a critical language for American children to learn, given the increasingly intertwined economic and political connections between the US and China. Yu Ying has been name a “Tier 1” (high performing) every year it has been ranked by the DC Public Charter School Board. This combination of high academic achievement and a unique, bilingual curriculum has led Yu Ying to be features in a number of national publications, including the New York Times, NPR and Newsweek. In addition, Yu Ying was honored to host First Lady Michelle Obama in preparation for her recently completed trip to China.
