WASHINGTON — A police officer has been found dead in his Southeast residence, according to the D.C. police.
The Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed they are investigating a death in an apartment building at the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. They confirmed the deceased’s name is Johnny Jones, 56. Police would not confirm early Sunday morning that the person is a police officer.
But reports by Darcy Spencer at NBC News 4 say she confirmed with a “high ranking police source” at the department that Jones the deceased was a D.C. police officer.
The news channel also spoke with a resident at the building who said there is a police officer who lives there. Police apparently came to the residence when he did not report to work. A maintenance worker opened up the apartment for the officers, and that is when the body was found, reportedly.
There are no more details forthcoming at this time.
