WASHINGTON — A man was killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 70 in Maryland, near the Pennsylvania border, on Sunday night.
The Maryland State Police say that the crash happened on Interstate 70 eastbound, west of the one-mile marker, at about 8:30 p.m.
Larry Martz, of Pennsylvania, was driving west in the eastbound lanes, and collided head-on with vehicle driven by Brian Chatfield, 27, from North Carolina, the police say. Martz was flown to a hospital, where he died. Chatfield and two passengers — Clarence Hobbs, 44, of Newark, Del., and Joshua Walls, 25, from Baltimore — suffered minor injuries; the police say they were treated at the scene and released.
The road was closed for about three hours.
