WASHINGTON (AP) – Metropolitan police say a construction worker was killed when an SUV crashed into a work zone on Suitland Parkway in Southeast.
The worker was setting up a construction zone on outbound lanes between Firth Sterling Avenue and Stanton Road late Wednesday, when police say the crashed occurred. The SUV crashed into the back of a work truck and police say the worker was pinned between the vehicles.
Police say the worker was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to an area hospital, but her condition is not available.
Suitland Parkway was closed in both directions for several hours, but officials say inbound lanes have reopened.
Police initially said the parkway had reopened completely, but then said only inbound had reopened.
The outbound lanes reopened around 7:15 a.m.
