WASHINGTON – An armed-robbery suspect is hospitalized Wednesday after a police chase and shooting in Northeast D.C.
Police say it started with an armed robbery of a liquor store along Walters Lane in the Forestville, Md. area in Prince George’s County around 5:45 p.m.
The suspects held the store employee by gunpoint and demanded money.
Julie Parker with Prince George’s County Police tells WTOP the suspects fled in a minivan into Northeast D.C. where the van crashed into a utility pole in the area of 57th Place and Clay Street.
There, at least two suspects got out of the van and ran.
A Prince George’s County officer fired his weapon and one suspect was shot, but it’s not clear if the officer’s bullet hit the suspect or the suspect shot himself.
One suspect is in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the groin. A second suspect, who isn’t hurt, is in custody.
No officers were injured.
As part of standard procedure, the officer who opened fire will be placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
