WASHINGTON – A woman gave birth to a baby boy on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway Friday morning.
A woman pulled over on the Outer Loop near the Route 123 exit by Tysons Corner at about 5 a.m. because she was going into labor, officials say.
Fairfax County emergency crews responded to the scene to transport the woman — whose name has not yet been released — to an area hospital. However, they had to pull over a few minutes later to deliver the child.
Fairfax County paramedic Jeffrey Kutner, who was part of the response team, says when the emergency crew first arrived, there weren’t any signs that the mother was actively in labor — but things quickly changed.
“Two minutes later down the road, she screamed and, you know, had that sound that the baby was coming,” Kutner says.
The mother and child are doing fine in a local hospital.
Kutner says the birth couldn’t have happened at a better time. Fairfax County paramedics’ continuing education topic this month is titled “Prehospital Childbirth without Complications.”
