WASHINGTON – There’s a lot going on in the local music world this weekend.
Howard University is presenting several musical homecoming events, including Erykah Badu performing tonight at the Howard University Cramton Auditorium.
Another Howard Homecoming highlight — Trey Songz and Brandy at the Cramton Auditorium.
Howard University’s main event — their first-annual “Building the Bridge” party — takes place Saturday night at the Howard Theatre.
Scheduled for 11 p.m. Saturday, the black-tie event will feature surprise performances and DJ sets from D-Nice, Biz Markie, and Chris Washington.
Howard alumni provide scholarships to students as part of the event as well.
Outside of the Homecoming Weekend festivities, there are even more notable concerts to check out.
Scheduled for Friday night at the 9:30 Club, Cold War Kids are scheduled to turn in a recently-added second performance. Their Thursday night concert quickly sold out.
Saturday night at IOTA Club and Cafe, Justin Jones Band guitarist Bobby Thompson is scheduled to perform a set of his solo material.
Thompson’s songs appeal to modern blues and Americana fans. His confident and emotive guitar work is a real treat to see in person.
Scheduled for Sunday night at the Howard Theatre, George Clinton and the P Funk All-Stars will draw the area’s funk fans. At 72 years old, the ever-eccentric Clinton can still work a crowd into a frenzy.
