Seem too early to be talking about next year’s National Cherry Blossom Festival? Yeah, we thought so too. But with a deadline looming for the festival’s first-ever singing competition, we made an exception.
That’s right — thanks to the “Sing into Spring” competition, budding singers in the D.C. region have a chance to put their talents on display next year at the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade.
They just have to make sure the judges deem them worthy.
Soloists and singing groups have until Nov. 15 to submit their information and a 30-second performance video. The organization will choose up to 20 finalists to participate in a live show, with a celebrity panel of judges choosing the winners in January.
The panel will choose up to four performers or groups to participate in the festival parade, which is scheduled for April 12, 2014.
The ultimate goal of the ‘Sing into Spring’ competition is to shine a spotlight on the talent in the greater metropolitan area and demonstrate the festival’s commitment to local residents,” Diana Mayhew, president of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, said in a statement.
