CHANTILLY, Va. – Last week, the Fairfax County police announced that some old-fashioned foot patrols will start around Thanksgiving. And new chief Ed Roessler says they’re also bringing back dashboard cams in patrol cars.
The county police has done some patrol cars with cameras, but scrapped the program after the equipment began aging and the department lost grant money.
“Eventually,” Roessler says, “it’s our goal where we can release video footage, so the community understands the nature of some events and to understand how we police.”
That doesn’t mean you’ll see everything they do. Roessler says some video may be held back as evidence, in either court or possible disciplinary proceedings.
