WASHINGTON – Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones lashed out on Twitter Sunday, saying a fan threw a banana at him during a game.
An enraged Jones took to Twitter to share his frustration with his more than 129,000 followers after the Orioles’ 10-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.
It is not clear who may have thrown the banana at San Francisco’s AT&T Park.
Throwing a banana in the direction of a black player is considered a racist action. It has previously happened in NHL and European soccer matches, according to ESPN.
About two hours after Jones’ tweet about the incident, he responded to those who were reportedly defending the action.
I love how some ppl are defending the actions by someone today. Shows how u really are also. All good wit me. I just #StayHungry
