WASHINGTON – A D.C. man pleaded guilty to second-degree assault on Wednesday after striking a Prince George’s County police cruiser and almost hitting a police officer last August.
Dion Morgan, 27, was stopped in a BMW with a bad tag on Aug. 7, 2012 when an officer approached him and Morgan accelerated to escape, nearly striking the officer, according to the Prince George’s County state’s attorney’s office.
A chase followed, ending when Morgan crashed his car in D.C. Morgan was found with a handgun and crack cocaine.
Morgan pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, possession of crack cocaine and wearing and carrying a handgun.
He will be sentenced on Aug. 2. As part of his plea deal, the state has agreed to ask for a sentence no higher than approximately 13 to 14 months.
