WASHINGTON – Montgomery County police are looking for three people suspected of trying to remove an ATM from a bank in Potomac, Md.
The bizarre attempted theft happened at about 2 a.m. Tuesday at a Bank of America located near River Road and Falls Road, police say.
A surveillance camera shows the three masked suspects attempting to remove the ATM from the outer wall of the bank onto the bed of a pickup truck. They reportedly also tried to use a backhoe, which police believe was stolen.
Later Tuesday morning, a heavy-duty steel chain remained wrapped around the ATM. Police believe it was attached to a vehicle to yank the ATM from the concrete foundation.
When police arrived, the suspects fled the scene, and they remain on the loose.
Police say the suspects did not get access into the ATM and did not take any money.
