WASHINGTON – The Washington Nationals are reversing the team’s rain delay policy after fans roared in objection to having to use their tickets for Tuesday’s rained-out game on the rescheduled day.
When weather forced the team to cancel the Nationals home game against the Detroit Tigers, fan outcry to the team and on Twitter was unanimous, suggesting the Nats should let fans use postponed game tickets at any game of their choosing.
Wednesday afternoon, the team changed its policy, releasing this statement:
“The Washington Nationals wish to announce that all fans who purchased tickets for Tuesday night’s postponed game with the Detroit Tigers will be guaranteed their same seats for Thursday’s scheduled 4:05 p.m. makeup game, or will retain the option to exchange their tickets – as they have in the past – for any remaining regular or value home game during the 2013 season, subject to availability.”
When asked if the change was permanent and will apply to all games, the Nationals’ chief operating officer, Andrew Feffer, told WTOP that it would.
“The easiest thing to do — with attendance at 32,000-plus per game now and the best seats going quickly — is for those fans redeeming for any future games … to do it early,” Feffer said. “Call the rep, go online. Don’t just show up at the ballpark on the day of the game, because what’s happening is those best seats that they might have had for that game are not available.”
In the team’s statement, the Nats also cautioned that seats may be limited.
“Due to increased attendance at Nationals Park, ‘rain check’ ticket holders are encouraged to contact the Nationals ticket office by phone or online to better ensure seating for those games. The Nationals apologize for any inconvenience,” the team’s statement reads.
