WASHINGTON – Nats phenom Bryce Harper and Redskins star Robert Griffin III are two of the latest cover boys for ESPN The Magazine.
The 15th anniversary issue highlights the year’s best athletes and focuses on rookies, including those who have energized the D.C. sports scene. There are four different covers for the double-issue — including one featuring Harper, another with RG3.
They aren’t regional covers. All four will be available nationwide, reports the D.C. Sports Bog.
“They’re exciting, they’re charismatic and they’re good,” Chad Millman, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, told The Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg about Harper and Griffin. “We’re not Tebowing these guys. We don’t do something about them in every issue. We do something when the moment is special, when we think the occasion matches the interest level in these guys. And certainly right now it’s hard to argue against Harper being in this issue, as good as he’s playing.”
On Twitter, Harper announced his excitement about the cover.
So thankful and blessed to be on the cover of @espnmag 15th anniversary issue! I am so honored! #Mag15 twitter.c om/Bharper3407/st
