WASHINGTON – A dispute over gun control that threatened to weaken the Washington area Council of Governments has been defused.
The council had adopted support for more gun control by endorsing an International Association of Chiefs Police position.
But several communities, including Prince William County, Manassas and Fairfax cities and Frederick County, Md. had threatened to withdraw their support for COG because of that decision.
Wednesday the COG board ended the controversy with a resolution encouraging member jurisdictions to individually share their opinions on gun violence with state and federal legislators.
