WASHINGTON – A 30 year-old idea to build a road to help the growing Northern Virginia population may be getting some new life.
The Bi-County Parkway would serve two purposes: preserve the Manassas National Battlefield Park and link Prince William and Loudoun counties.
The ten-mile road would start near the intersection of I-66 and the Prince William Parkway, run around the the battlefield, and join U.S. Route 50 near Dulles.
Several transportation and historic agencies need to approve the plan before construction begins. InsideNova reports an agreement could come later this year.
Loudoun and Prince William county leaders say it will provide better transportation options for their residents.
Critics say the plan is inadequate because it will only shift traffic problems from one area of the battlefield to another. They’re also worried that the road will promote more development near the battlefield.
A town hall meeting is scheduled for Monday night to discuss the plan for the the parkway. It will be held at Bull Run Middle School, 6308 Catharpin Road in Gainesville, starting at 7:30 p.m.
