Howard University is planning a $107 million residential expansion at its Northwest D.C. campus to accommodate more than 1,300 students.
The university is partnering with Philadelphia-based Campus Apartments Inc. to build the two residential buildings, which university President Sidney Ribeau said should also help bring new life to the District’s Fourth Street corridor.
“The addition of these state-of-the-art residential facilities will help to revitalize the 4th Street corridor of our campus and establish a physical community for students to live, learn and socialize,” Ribeau said in a statement. “By improving the quality of our housing, this project will aid in the recruitment and retention of students and enhance the overall collegiate experience at Howard University.”
The buildings, scheduled for completion in August 2014,will be financed through tax-exempt bonds issued by the District.
The development team also includes Provident Resources Group, RBC Capital Markets, Clark Construction Group LLC and McKissack & McKissack of Washington Inc.
