WASHINGTON – Two men died early Sunday morning after being shot in the Flower Avenue area of Takoma Park, Md. Police have identified the men as 30-year-old David Draa of Takoma Park and 30-year-old Steven Kyle Hickman of Washington, D.C. Photographs of the victims are not available at this time. The shootings appear to be a murder/suicide, according to a release by police.
At approximately 1:42 a.m., Takoma Park Police received a call for shots fired in the Takoma Park area of Flower Avenue. Shortly after, they received another call for a report of two white males lying in a driveway in the 7300 block of Flower Avenue. Officers responded and confirmed both males deceased suffering from gunshot wounds.
The bodies were located in the driveway of one of the deceased persons. Investigators do not believe that there were any other individuals involved in the incident, at this time.
Until the autopsies are completed on Monday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Md., the exact cause and mechanism of death have not yet to be determined.
Preliminarily investigators believe, however, that the two men were friends and were coworkers at a special education school in the District.
“It is premature to determine what circumstances led to or why this shooting occurred. There was no indication of hostility prior to the shooting. All initial information leads to the belief that this was a Homicide/Suicide. We would ask that respect and privacy be given to the families of both men,” according to police.
The investigation in ongoing. Information will be updated as it is made known to the Public Information Officer.
