WASHINGTON – Residents who walk along the W&OD Trail near Reston Avenue are being warned to take precautions after a woman was assaulted there.
A 31-year-old woman called Fairfax County Police after she was attacked on Tuesday evening along the trail.
She entered the W&OD Trail off Reston Avenue and was near the Herndon Parkway overpass when a man dragged her off the path and into a wooded area.
The woman told police she struggled with the man who eventually ran onto a nearby gravel trail. She was not hurt, according to a police news release.
The 25-year-old man is described as heavy-set. He was clean shaven with short, black hair, wearing glasses, a dark jacket and dark jeans, police say.
Police are urging anyone who plans to walk along more secluded trails to consider taking a friend. They advise residents not to wear ear buds or ear phones, stay aware of their surroundings and tell someone where they are going before they leave.
Anyone with information about the man described above is asked to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS, text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131. They can also email police at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org.
