Radio DJ Tom Joyner makes racially charged comments about playing RG3

WASHINGTON – A popular D.C. radio host is raising a racial question over the decision to play Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. His controversial comments are causing a stir, reports The Washington Post.

On his show Monday morning, Tom Joyner made a parallel between Redskins coach Mike Shanahan’s decision to play hurt quarterback Robert Griffin III and Leonardo Di Caprio’s character – a slave owner whose slaves fight for his entertainment – in the movie “Django.”

In his article about the comments, The Post’s Dan Steinberg writes, “I’m not a regular listener, so I can’t swear that this wasn’t some sort of a gimmick, but it seemed awfully sensitive ground.”

Joyner’s syndicated show is based in Dallas and holds an audience of 8 million listeners weekly in over 105 markets, according to MediaBistro.com.
