WASHINGTON – Anyone planning on taking Metro to the Presidential Inauguration should considering planning for it now.
Estimates say as many as 800,000 people may be attending the inauguration, the swearing in and the parade on Jan. 21.
Metro has already sold 20,000 of its special $15 commemorative SmartTrip cards, which will give riders a one-day unlimited pass on both Metro rail and Metro bus.
Riders who don’t buy a card in advance would have to buy cards at the station, when long lines and malfunctioning equipment could cause delays.
Because of the expected long lines, riders who already own SmarTrip cards should plan on reloading the card before Inauguration Day.
Metro is also suggesting you purchase SmartTrip cards for any out of town guests you may be expecting.
You can order the commemorative SmartTrip card on Metro’s website. The card must be ordered by Tuesday, Jan. 15 in order for it to arrive on time.
Both the regular and commemorative SmarTrip cards are available at Metro sales offices or regional transit store.
