WASHINGTON – Several unofficial inaugural balls take place Sunday, Jan. 20 and run as late as 1, 2 or even 3 a.m.
But Metrorail won’t stay open late to get those partygoers home.
Why is that?
The WTOP Answer Desk looked into it.
Metro began planning for the inauguration nearly a year ago, and has been working closely with the Presidential Inaugural Committee for months.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says because there aren’t official inaugural events late Sunday, the Metrorail system will close at its normal time: Midnight.
Those celebrating into the wee hours will want to keep this in mind.
Stessel says Metro’s hours for inauguration weekend were announced in October.
“There have been no concerns raised with us from non-official events about our hours of service,” says Stessel.
On Monday, Jan. 21, Metrorail will operate for 22 hours, from 4 a.m. until 2 a.m. Tuesday.
