WASHINGTON – The Washington Nationals made a trade this week obtaining centerfielder Denard Span from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for minor league pitching prospect Alex Meyer.
By getting Span, GM Mike Rizzo gets the lead-off hitter and the centerfielder he has wanted for the past two seasons.
With the winter meetings beginning in Nashville Monday, it will be interesting see what this move will mean for the Nats going forward. Can, or will, the Nats sign Adam LaRoche? And if the team does, what ripple effect will that move have on the rest of the team’s preparations before spring training?
WTOP’s Craig Heist talks with MLB.com’s Nationals beat writer Bill Ladson about that and other topics in this edition of their podcast.
