WASHINGTON – An attack on a woman in Springfield Monday night appears to be the work of a serial groper in Fairfax County.
Fairfax County Police Officer Eddy Azcarate says a woman was walking to an apartment in the Springfield area around 6 p.m. Monday night when she says a man grabbed her from behind.
When she turned around, the man ran off.
She says he was wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans.
The incident happened in the 7200 block of Commerce Street.
Azcarate say this appears to be the 10th reported case in Fairfax County since early September.
Azcarate says the serial groper has been known to wear either a red hat or a bandana.
Officers continue to investigate the serial groping case and are asking for tips from people in the area.
Azcarate advises people to try to be aware of their surroundings when out walking and look ahead and behind frequently.
He also advises people to travel in pairs if they can and if they can’t, have a cellphone ready.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, with a medium build and black hair. He often wears a red cap.
