Capella Hotels and Resorts will open its first U.S. property in Georgetown in January.
The Capella Washington, D.C., a $45 million renovation of the former American Trial Lawyers Association building at 1050 31st St. NW, includes 49 rooms, a restaurant and lounge, and a guest-only rooftop pool and bar.
Capella, IGC Properties and Castleton Holdings redeveloped the property. Castleton bought the building from the Trial Lawyers Association for $18.3 million.
Capella founder and chief executive Horst Shulze spent 19 years with Ritz-Carlton, including serving as its chief operating officer.
Its other properties include resorts in Germany, Mexico and Singapore.
